Pflugerville Animal Shelter

Our THE ONE event happened last weekend at PetSmart. There were lots of pets looking for their forever families from different organizations. We had a great traffic of people stopping by and giving some love to our pets and getting info. Great news from this weekend: Bradley Cooper got adopted! Daisy is with her family. Kerri says the little girl of the family told her “sorry you lose your dog but I’ll take good care of her” Bonnie was adopted and has a cute little girl to take care of her and Charlie (Bonnie’s brother) was adopted by his foster. We pick them up fromRead More →

Watch Shelby on the news (KXAN) Pflugerville Animal Shelter long-stay, Shelby, recently carried a really big rock out of the creek, which turned out to be a bison bone! Thanks to an invaluable shelter volunteer, who is also a specialist at Texas Archeological Research Laboratory (TARL), the following analysis of Shelby’s fossil find can be shared: This is a photo of Shelby’s bone (on the right) compared to the same element from a species of bison excavated at the Bonfire Shelter archeological site (near Langtry, TX). This is the tag that is associated with the fossilized bison humerus we have here at TARL: What wouldRead More →

There are only a few times in my life when I didn’t own a dog – when I was in college and when I was in the military. During those times I was blessed to come home to my childhood dog, Rusty. I was around 9 years old when my mother adopted Rusty from our local animal shelter. He was laid back, friendly and always seemed happy to be a part of our family. As a latch-key kid, it was Rusty who greeted me every day after school. When my parents divorced, only Rusty knew what I was truly feeling. When I was 16, myRead More →

I’m sure most of us have seen the movie “Homeward Bound” where 2 dogs and a cat travelled many miles to find their way home back to their family.  It was a story of courage, strength and unconditional love. I hadn’t given much thought of this childhood movie until a similar story happened at the Pflugerville Animal Shelter. Meet Daisy.  Just another dog right?      “It’s me or the dog!” We have heard this saying time and time again when fido steals the Thanksgiving turkey or knocks down Grandma. Typically, the phrase is thrown out in anger and later recanted, but unfortunately there are situations whereRead More →

Barneigh is in desperate need of donations for hip surgeries, as well as a foster or forever home to recover from those surgeries. Barneigh (6 years old) has severe hip dysplasia and is constant pain. She needs two separate surgeries: 1 for each hip. If she does not have these surgeries, the vet is recommending euthanasia in order to ease her pain. The Pflugerville Animal Shelter is beyond capacity and needs help. Barneigh’s procedures can not be scheduled until she has a foster home lined up. Both Barneigh and Champ have been neglected, and for the first time in their lives, they have a chanceRead More →

Several dogs at the Pflugerville Animal Shelter need your help! They need training so they can learn some manners. Good manners make them more adoptable! Most of them need basic training like not jumping, “sit”, “stay”, and “down”…but a few need more extensive training through a Board and Train program. Roxy is one of the shelter dogs on the top of the list for Board and Train. She is a high energy dog who gets over excited when getting out of the kennel. She jumps, bites and pulls on the leash. It has become so hard for staff and volunteers to take her out thatRead More →
